Overview

Post-traumatic stress disorder can develop after a frightening, dangerous, or deeply distressing experience — and its effects can linger long after the event itself, showing up as flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness. Care for PTSD at our practice combines talk therapy with medication management where it's helpful, at a pace that respects what you've been through.

How soon after a traumatic event can PTSD be diagnosed?

Symptoms sometimes appear within a month of the event, but they can also emerge much later. A diagnosis generally requires symptoms to persist for more than a month and to significantly affect daily functioning.

Is medication necessary, or is therapy enough?

Therapy is often central to PTSD treatment, and many patients see real improvement from talk therapy alone. Medication can help manage specific symptoms — like severe anxiety or sleep disruption — enough to make therapy more effective.

What if I'm not ready to talk about what happened?

That's a normal and common feeling, and treatment doesn't require you to relive every detail before you're ready. We move at a pace that works for you, and building trust with your provider is part of the process.
